Expanded meeting on Ukraine begins at White House with participation of European leaders

An expanded meeting has begun at the White House, bringing together the presidents of the United States and Ukraine along with top European leaders who have arrived in Washington to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine.

According to an Ukrinform correspondent, the meeting is taking place in the East Room of the U.S. president’s residence.

In addition to U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, attendees include European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The leaders are expected to discuss a unified approach and explore diplomatic opportunities to bring Russia’s war against Ukraine to an end.

As reported by Ukrinform, on Monday, August 18, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office of the White House.  Government delegations from the United States and Ukraine participated in the talks.
