The number of artillery strikes by Russian troops may increase significantly in the Orikhiv and Huliaypole directions.
This was stated in a comment to Ukrinform by Vladislav Voloshyn, spokesman for the Southern Defense Forces.
“According to our intelligence, the number of artillery attacks may increase, as the enemy has increased the limit on artillery ammunition for counter-battery combat by 54%,” the spokesman said.
Voloshyn recalled that previously, the enemy used about 12,000 rounds of ammunition for shelling, and in the near future, this number could increase to 18-18,500. Every day, the Russians carry out about 200-250 shelling attacks in the southern directions, using 750-800 rounds of ammunition.
“Information about the increase in ammunition limits may indicate that the enemy is preparing to intensify shelling or to accompany assault operations,” he added.
Voloshyn also noted that the number of combat clashes with the enemy has increased in the Orikhiv direction.
“Over the past week, compared to the previous one, the number of combat clashes has increased slightly, but the Ukrainian Defense Forces are conducting search and strike operations to restore their positions and push the enemy back from the settlements of Plavni and Kamianske in the Orikhiv direction,” Voloshin said.
According to the spokesman, the Russian occupiers have not displaced the Defense Forces from the settlement of Kamianske.
“We are currently conducting search and strike operations there [Kamianske] with the aim of restoring our positions, and we have achieved some success. Some positions have been restored and the enemy has been repelled. Such positions have been restored by 23% more than last week,” Voloshin said.
As reported by Ukrinform, on the front line over the past day, August 17, there were 182 combat clashes between the Defense Forces and Russian invaders, 58 of them in the Pokrovsk direction.
