High-ranking officials from the US, Ukraine, and several European countries intend to develop a detailed security guarantee project for our country in the coming days, which will likely involve the US Air Force.
According to Ukrinform, Axios reported this with reference to two sources familiar with the negotiations.
It is noted that security guarantees were a key topic of the meeting between Trump, Zelensky, and European leaders, which took place on Monday at the White House.
“Trump and Zelensky talked in general terms about what is needed for security guarantees, but did not go into details,” a Ukrainian official told the publication.
The White House chief agreed with European leaders to work together on security guarantees “similar to NATO’s Article 5.” But when it came to the role of the US, he “was not specific,” the European official noted.
Two sources familiar with the matter said that an American-European-Ukrainian commission had been set up to develop a proposal on security guarantees. It is headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and national security advisers from Ukraine and European countries are participating in the discussions.
“In the coming days, everyone will be working from dawn to dusk on security guarantees. Perhaps by the end of the week we will have a clear structure,” the Ukrainian official said.
When Trump called Putin on Monday evening after talking to Zelensky, he told the Russian dictator that he should meet directly with the Ukrainian president to discuss territorial issues and urged him to be “realistic,” according to the publication. Trump and European leaders agreed that this should happen by the end of August, but Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said on Tuesday that before the leaders can sit down at the negotiating table, full preparations must be made at the working level.
As reported by Ukrinform, the United States is ready to support its European partners in implementing security guarantees for Ukraine by providing air support. Also, according to Trump, the US is ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine together with other countries, but not in the form of our country joining the North Atlantic Alliance.
