The development of the Flamingo missile with a range of 3,000 km is an achievement of the Ukrainian defense industry and will enable strikes against strategic targets deep inside Russia.
The development of such strategic weapons will also be an argument in peace negotiations, at least to force Russia to agree to minimally acceptable conditions.
This was stated in a comment to Ukrinform by Murat Aslan, an international expert at the SETA analytical center, associate professor, and doctor of science at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Hasan Kalyoncu University.
“The development of a missile with a range of 3,000 km is a significant achievement. This is because it can strike strategic targets deep inside Russia without relying on external support,” said Murat Aslan.
The expert noted that it is currently difficult to draw conclusions about the extent to which Russian air defense systems will be able to intercept this missile.
“If this missile is hypersonic, Ukraine will be able to conduct operations deep into the territory [of Russia] and hit strategic targets. This is, of course, an important achievement for Ukrainians,” said Murat Aslan.
According to him, the development and use of the Flamingo missile will also have an impact on the peace talks with Russia and the situation on the front lines.
“The development of such strategic weapons is important in order to, at the very least, force Russia to agree to minimally acceptable conditions during the current peace talks,” said Murat Aslan.
He also warned that Russia’s response to the use of Flamingo missiles could be serious.
“After all, they also have high-quality missile systems, such as the Oreshnyk. Similarly, this could have certain consequences on the Ukrainian front. Therefore, all factors and consequences need to be carefully considered,” the expert and scientist noted.
An expert from the leading Turkish analytical center SETA also pointed out that Ukraine is known for its potential in the defense industry. In particular, it has already proven its capabilities in rocket technology, including aircraft engines. He concluded that the Ukrainian defense industry has made significant progress in the production of weapons, equipment, and ammunition necessary for warfare.
As reported by Ukrinform, Ukraine has unveiled the Flamingo long-range cruise missile with a range of 3,000 km. Its photo was published by photojournalist Yefrem Lukatsky on Facebook. In the caption to the photo, he commented that the missile has already been put into serial production. The photo was taken on August 14 at an undisclosed location. The comment under the photo indicates that the work was carried out by Fire Point. President Volodymyr Zelensky said that successful tests of the domestic Flamingo missile have already taken place, and mass production is scheduled to begin in January-February.
