U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he “would rather not” be present at a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
According to Sky News, the Head of White House made this remark to journalists on Friday, Ukrinform reports.
“We’re going to see if Putin and Zelensky will be working together. You know, that’s like oil and vinegar, a little bit. They don’t get along too well, for obvious reasons. But we’ll see. And then we’ll see whether or not I would have to be there [at the meeting of the leaders of Russia and Ukraine]. I’d rather not,” Trump said.
As reported by Ukrinform, on August 19, U.S. President Donald Trump stressed that his administration was working on organizing direct negotiations between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin to reach an agreement on ending the war.
On August 22, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Russians were doing everything to prevent a meeting of the leaders of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia from taking place.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov mentioned that Putin was ready to meet with the President of Ukraine on the condition that a summit plan is prepared, which is not ready at the moment.
