On Ukraine’s National Flag Day, drone operators of the RUGBY TEAM battalion from the 129th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade raised Ukrainian flags over the villages of Hornal and Huyevo in Sudzha district of Russia’s Kursk region — territories historically belonging to Ukrainian Slobozhanshchyna.
As reported by Ukrinform, the battalion shared the news and video footage on Telegram.
According to the soldiers, the Ukrainian flag is now flying over Hornal and Huyevo as a symbol of resilience and a reminder to the enemy: Ukraine always remembers and reclaims what is its own.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Ukraine marks National Flag Day on August 23. The holiday was established to honor the centuries-old history of Ukrainian statehood and national symbols, as well as to foster respect for them among citizens, according to a presidential decree issued on August 23, 2004.
Amendments introduced in 2009 added an annual official flag-raising ceremony across Ukraine on this date.
