Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, said that by the end of 2025, the total value of military assistance provided by Alliance member states to Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression will reach around $50 billion.
He made the statement in an interview with Corriere della Sera, reported by Nova News, according to Ukrinform.
“NATO countries have provided 99 percent of total military aid. In 2024, its value reached $50 billion. As of January 2025, we’re already at $33 billion, but by the end of the year, we’ll be in line with the previous figure. The projections are very optimistic,” Admiral Cavo Dragone emphasized.
The NATO military chief stressed that the Alliance will continue to support Ukraine:
“We intend to continue military aid and even increase it. It’s now clear that the Ukrainians are seeking dialogue, but the Russians are reluctant and stalling to gain time. I hope the sanctions aimed at increasing internal tensions against Putin will be tightened. Our hope is to allow Ukraine to negotiate from a strong position.”
He also praised Ukraine’s armed forces, saying they are “a model for Europe,” and reiterated NATO’s stance that “our full support for Ukraine has never changed and will not change until there is a just and lasting peace.”
Regarding the possibility of deploying NATO troops for a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, Cavo Dragone explained:
“These issues are part of international politics and negotiations with Moscow. But we at NATO have absolutely not discussed it, not even hinted at it.”
He described such discussions as “premature,” adding: “We know that the issue of contingents has been broached by individual nations, perhaps bilaterally. But, I repeat, it remains in its infancy. The security guarantees decided by politicians must define the context.”
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni proposed security guarantees for Ukraine similar to NATO’s collective defense clause but without granting actual membership in the Alliance.
