President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the overnight Russian drone attack was deliberately aimed at civilian infrastructure, leaving more than 100,000 households without electricity across three regions.
The head of state reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
“Restoration efforts are now underway in Sumy region after Russian drone strikes. Nearly a hundred UAVs and targeted overnight attacks on our regions, aimed specifically at civilian infrastructure. Unfortunately, energy facilities were damaged. The attack caused power outages in Poltava, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions, leaving more than one hundred thousand households without electricity. All emergency services are working on the ground to restore power as quickly as possible,” Zelensky said.
According to him, in Kharkiv region, the occupiers struck a high school with a drone, in Kherson they hit a residential high-rise. There are casualties, and all necessary assistance is being provided. Dnipropetrovsk region also came under attack.
Zelensky stressed that Russia continues its war and ignores all international calls to stop the killings and destruction.
“New steps are needed to increase pressure on Russia to stop the attacks and to ensure real security guarantees,” the President underscored.
As reported, overnight on August 27, Russian forces carried out another massive attack on power and gas infrastructure in six regions. In particular, a UAV strike damaged equipment at a key substation in Sumy, leaving a large part of the city and industrial consumers without electricity. In Poltava region, the enemy deliberately and comprehensively targeted gas transmission infrastructure, causing severe damage.
The Ministry of Energy views the massive attack as a continuation of Russia’s deliberate policy of destroying Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure ahead of the heating season.
