Today, with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelensky, the official opening of the National Military Memorial Cemetery took place.
This was reported by a Ukrinform correspondent.
At the National Military Memorial Cemetery, the first burial ceremony of soldiers whose names have not yet been identified was held.
The ceremony was also attended by Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, and Veterans Affairs Minister Nataliia Kalmykova.
As reported by Ukrinform, on December 8, 2023, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law to ensure the creation and operation of the National Military Memorial Cemetery.
The National Military Memorial Cemetery is a nationwide place of honor and commemoration for the deceased defenders of Ukraine.
The memorial complex provides not only for the presence of a military cemetery with all the necessary ritual facilities for conducting honorable burials of the fallen (deceased) individuals who defended Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, but also for the establishment of a museum complex.
Last month, the government reported that 6,000 places at the National Military Memorial Cemetery had been prepared for the first burials.
