Representatives of the U.S. Department of Defense have said they will not object to the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine by third countries.
That’s according to Politico, which cites a Pentagon spokesperson, Ukrinform reports.
According to the news outlet, while the White House has repeatedly dismissed the possibility of sending the U.S. Air Force’s F-16s, it has never ruled out approving a third-party transfer from another country.
When asked to comment on the possibility of other countries sending F-16s to Ukraine, a Pentagon spokesperson pointed to a January Politico article quoting a senior DoD official saying, “I don’t think we are opposed” to the idea of a third-party transfer.
However, the official stressed a decision has not been made.
