Ukraine’s NATO Allies should realize that now is the moment when Ukrainian citizens should hear a political decision regarding Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance, and the success of the Vilnius Summit depends on international partners.
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna said this during the United News telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Commenting on the statement by President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda that the presence of the President of Ukraine at the NATO Summit in Vilnius plays an important role in the decision-making of the Alliance, Stefanishyna noted that “there is a slightly different logic here.”
“Actually, now the Allies should realize, more than ever, the sense of the moment, that right now is the moment when we have to hear the necessary political decisions, first of all for our citizens. And, actually, it depends on the Allies whether this summit will be successful or not. I can confirm that we have been in constant contact with all Allies for the past few months, the President is personally holding talks with the leaders, and I do not rule out that the final decisions may be made in Vilnius. But for now, the discussion is ongoing, and we do not have a final vision for political decisions regarding Ukraine,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
As reported, President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda expressed hope that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will come to Vilnius, despite his warning that he does not see any point in going if Kyiv is not given a “signal” at the summit, and will play an important role in decision-making in Vilnius.
