FAKE: “Azov” battalion is destroying Mariupol

Russian forces have failed to capture Mariupol quickly — the city is holding, its defenders are repulsing the russian attacks for nearly three weeks. Not getting the easy takeover they expected, the russians are now destroying the city, while trapping hundreds of thousands of civilians inside.
Russian propaganda is attempting to shift the blame for the horrific bombings and the ruination of Mariupol onto Ukraine, saying that the soldiers of the “Azov” battalion that are defending the city are the ones destroying it.
To spread this fake, Russia, once again, is using hired actors. Every so often, they use actual civilians from Mariupol, forcing them to repeat the russian fakes on camera in exchange for letting them leave the city.
FAKE: “Azov” had plans of setting up firing positions in apartment buildings

In their attempts to blame Ukraine for the destruction of Mariupol, russians are resorting to the most ridiculous fakes. This, for example, is a supposed “Azov” plan of setting up defenses in a populated apartment building.
Firstly, if “Azov” are, according to russian propaganda, ultra-hardcore Nazis, why is this plan in russian? Secondly, Severdonetsk was never a part of self-proclaimed “LPR”. It is all a fever dream of russian invaders made into a fake picture.

FAKE: Russian Army does not use “Tochka-U” in Ukraine, since it is not in service

Russians constantly accuse Ukraine of creating fakes and claim that russian army does not have “Tochka-U” missiles. A week before the russian invasion, russian armed forces were conducting military exercises in Belarus, where they, according to their media, used “Tochka-U”. Belarus also has “Tochka-U” in service, and russians are using Belarus resources in their war against Ukraine.

For decades, Russia had created a network of media outlets to spread propaganda in other countries. It includes Russia Today, Sputnik and others, all created and sponsored by the Kremlin. Additionally, Russia has several foreign journalists on its payroll to use as “talking heads” that boost the russian narratives, or to frame them as “independent western experts” to create an illusion of impartiality.
Lara Long is one of such pro-russian journalists. She works for Fox News, a home of another Putin lover, Tucker Carlson. The statements and interviews of such personalities is the last outlet for russian propaganda in the West, since all the Kremlin media was banned.
All these journalists are alike in that they repeat the narratives of russian propaganda word for word: NATO is to blame for the war in Ukraine; Ukraine is dominated by Nazis; Russia is just defending its interests; western media lies about the war in Ukraine, and all the rest.

Russian propaganda keeps attempting to label Ukraine as a Nazi, or even a neo-Nazi state. There is not even a slight hint of Nazi support in the President’s actions. Furthermore, Zelenskyy is a russian speaking Jew.
FAKE: Collective West is to blame for Ukrainian “crisis”

This narrative is an attempt to deprive Ukraine of its agency and importance on the global stage.
Russian invasion was caused by the desire to return Ukraine, which had chosen a westward path, into the fold of the restored Russian Empire, with the complete destruction of Ukrainian identity and culture in the process. Putin himself had bluntly stated this desire in his maniacal articles and speeches.

This is a mirror narrative of russian propaganda.
One of the main goals of russian invasion of Ukraine is the destruction of the Ukrainian economy. The Black and Azov seaports are key trading hubs, and their capture or blockade will hurt the Ukrainian economy. Russians failed to capture Odessa, so their fleet is mining the main trading routes to and from Odessa.
