In Ukraine, imports significantly beat exports, so to support all forms of commercial operations in the country, government officials must work to attract investment.
This was emphasized in an evening video address to the nation by President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrinform reports.
“Today (during the NSDC meeting – ed.) we considered some key issues of our financial stability, financial discipline. There is a significant problem with the imbalance of imports and exports, imports (this does not apply to weapons) significantly exceed our exports. This trend that must be changed. We must create much more opportunities for production in Ukraine, to support all forms of commercial operations in Ukraine. Just as we are already attracting foreign investment in arms production, government officials must also work on other industries,” Zelensky noted.
The president added that government officials were instructed to engage with partners “so that there is more of our resource, our common European resource for the security of economic activity.” According to Zelensky, this covers multiple aspects: from humanitarian demining and farmland demining, to improving air defense in Ukrainian cities.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed government officials to report on American support programs earlier run by USAID that are currently suspended for 90 days.
