Greece commits to restoring Ukraine’s cultural heritage – Ukrainian Culture Ministry

Greece has confirmed its readiness to participate in projects aimed at restoring Ukraine’s cultural heritage, according to the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine.

This issue was discussed during a meeting between Ukrainian Culture and Strategic Communications Minister Mykola Tochytskyi and Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni, held in Uzhgorod during the international conference “Cooperation for Resilience.”

Tochytskyi thanked Mendoni for her participation in the event and for Greece’s endorsement of the Declaration on Strengthening the Resilience of Ukraine’s Cultural Sector. He also expressed Ukraine’s interest in expanding cooperation in heritage preservation, particularly through experience-sharing in restoration efforts and training programs for Ukrainian specialists.

Mendoni condemned the destruction caused by a Russian missile strike on the historic center of Odesa and reaffirmed Greece’s support for restoration projects in the city. She also emphasized the crucial role of culture and cultural tourism in Ukraine’s economic recovery.

Both ministers highlighted the importance of collaboration in combating the illegal trafficking of cultural artifacts, as well as potential joint efforts in archaeological research and underwater exploration.
