About 70% of all weaponry s and military equipment deployed on the battlefield comes from international aid. At the same time, state defense orders are increasingly focused on domestic manufacturers. Thus, in 2024, almost two-thirds of defense contracts were signed with Ukrainian producers.
This was reported in an interview with Ukrinform by the First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk.
“There is a concept of fully covered demand for running combat operations of top intensity. There is a concept of minimum requirements for, say, defensive missions. We’ve never had our demands fully covered. Approximately 70 percent of what’s been used on the battlefield by our Defense Forces is international military aid. And now we need help from our partners, especially in the supply of those types of weapons that we don’t produce ourselves or do so in insufficient numbers,” Havryliuk said, adding that this primarily concerns air defense capabilities, heavy armored vehicles, NATO standard artillery munitions, etc.
At the same time, he noted that Ukrainian manufacturers of munitions are also currently increasing output and mastering the production of new models of weapons and equipment.
“The state order is increasingly focused on domestic manufacturers. For example, last year, almost two-thirds of contracts for the purchase of munitions for the Armed Forces of Ukraine were concluded with Ukrainian producers. We managed to reduce dependence on imports of specialized armored vehicles, and Ukraine is approaching self-sufficiency in drone production,” emphasized Havryliuk.
The official particularly noted the production of long-range drones and emphasized that deep strike drones now serve as a certain replacement for long-range missiles.
As Ukrinform reported, on Thursday, February 6, the first batch of French Mirage 2000 fighter jets arrived in Ukraine, manned by Ukrainian pilots who had undergone several months of training in France. In addition, Ukraine received additional F-16 warplanes from the Netherlands.
