Umerov discusses ammunition production, air defense needs with Norwegian DM

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Onshuus Sandvik discussed equipping the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the potential for new joint projects, particularly in ammunition production.

According to Ukrinform, Umerov shared details of the meeting on Facebook.

During the discussion, Umerov congratulated Sandvik on his appointment and emphasized the importance of his role in the current security environment. He also briefed his Norwegian counterpart on Ukraine’s defense strategy for 2025 and the current needs of the country’s security and defense forces.

A key focus of the talks was the formation and equipping of the “Northern” Brigade, which will be supported by Scandinavian and Baltic countries, as well as one of Ukraine’s critical needs – interceptor missiles for air defense and missile defense systems.

The ministers also explored potential industrial partnerships, particularly in ammunition production.

“Ukraine is open to the mutual development of defense industries and will facilitate cooperation between Norwegian and Ukrainian companies. Securing additional funding to meet urgent defense needs remains a key priority,” Umerov stated.
