As part of Ukraine’s defense strategy, the country is actively developing its domestic market for weapon components.
Minister for Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
“Localization of component production is a key part of our defense strategy. Ukraine already has a components market. We produce a wide range of items: engines, casings, initiation boards, amplifiers, propellers, control panels, and more. We’ve even launched camera production,” Smetanin stated.
Smetanin highlighted a recent meeting of over 50 manufacturers of UAVs, missile systems, and electronic warfare (EW) components, where challenges and potential solutions were discussed.
Key initiatives introduced during the meeting include:
– “Component Library” Service – a closed digital database of Ukrainian manufacturers and their products for weapons and military equipment, currently in test mode;
– new financial support opportunities – joint funding initiatives in collaboration with Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy to support manufacturers.
Smetanin emphasized the importance of maximizing the share of Ukrainian-made components in domestic weapons, reducing dependence on external suppliers, and minimizing geopolitical risks.
As previously reported, international partners invested over $1.5 billion in Ukraine’s defense industry in 2024.
