For Ukraine, it is crucial that like-minded nations clearly state their position on ending the Russian-Ukrainian war at the UN General Assembly, without manipulating the term “peace.”

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated this during the “Ukraine. Year 2025” forum in Kyiv on Sunday, Ukrinform reports.

Sybiha stressed that Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts are fundamentally aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace.

“We believe that in this third year of brutal Russian aggression, we truly have a chance — a chance in this complex and turbulent period. We are telling many of our partners that now is the time to fasten our diplomatic seat belts. We must not give in to emotions,” Sybiha said.

He noted that Ukraine is currently at the center of global geopolitical developments. According to him, Ukraine operates on the principle that the security of Ukraine, Europe, and the United States is indivisible. Therefore, Ukrainian diplomacy is focused on maintaining the unity of its allies in their continued support for Ukraine.

“In terms of tactical steps, the immediate priority is the General Assembly — holding relevant events in the Security Council, at the UN, and within the General Assembly framework to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale aggression. It is essential that like-minded nations express their position clearly, as such actions always bring peace and the end of the war in Ukraine closer. And here, it is crucial not to manipulate the term ‘peace’ — it must be comprehensive, just, and lasting. We continue to convey our vision, our position, and our arguments to our partners,” the minister said.

Sybiha added that Ukrainian diplomats are working to strengthen ties with the U.S. at the highest level, as “we need the United States, and we need its active role in ensuring a just end to the war.”

In this context, he emphasized the importance of increasing pressure on Russia to raise the cost of its aggression.

“We are working on concrete measures — sanctions, frozen assets. We also believe that oil pricing is an extremely effective tool,” Sybiha said.

The UN General Assembly is set to consider at least two draft resolutions marking the third anniversary of Russia’s war against Ukraine — one proposed by a majority group of democratic nations, including Ukraine, and another by the United States.
