North Korea supplies 50% of Russia’s ammunition – Budanov

North Korea is supplying 50% of Russia’s ammunition in its war against Ukraine.

Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate, stated during the “Ukraine. Year 2025” forum, according to Ukrinform.

“We cannot overlook their strategic ally, North Korea, which satisfies 50% of all front-line ammunition needs. Fifty percent of the ammunition comes from [North] Korea,” Budanov said.

Budanov also revealed that North Korea has begun large-scale deliveries of 170mm self-propelled howitzers and 240mm multiple rocket launch systems to Russia.

“To date, Russia has received 120 units of each type of system, totaling 240 units. After that, with the help of Russian specialists, the systems were modernized, and their accuracy became acceptable. This year, North Korea is set to deliver 148 more such systems,” he said.

He also recalled that North Korea had provided assistance to Russia in the form of soldiers.

North Korea sent nearly 12,000 soldiers to Russia, with 4,000 casualties due to injuries and fatalities. Currently, the number of North Korean troops in Russia is 8,000, but replacements for the 4,000 dear or injured soldiers are being prepared, Budanov said.

Earlier, Budanov warned that North Korea’s involvement in the war against Ukraine woukld have long-term consequences for the security architecture in the Asia-Pacific region.
