After the liberation from Russian invaders, 1,190 bodies of people killed by Russian forces were found in Bucha district of the Kyiv region.
Mykola Kalashnyk, the acting head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
“On the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, we honor the memory of everyone who became a victim of Russia’s aggression, everyone who gave their lives for our independence,” Kalashnyk said.
He added: “Together with the relatives of the victims, I laid flowers at the memorial ‘Wall of Remembrance’ in Bucha, a town that has become a pain and a symbol. The names of civilian Ukrainians who were tortured, shot dead and buried in mass graves are engraved on it.”
According to Kalashnyk, 116 people, including 30 women and two children, were buried in a mass grave on the territory of the Church of St Andrew the First-Called in Bucha alone.
He recalled that after the liberation, the bodies of 422 dead residents were found in Bucha, and a total of 1,190 bodies in the Bucha district.
As reported by Ukrinform, in 2022, the battles in the Kyiv region lasted more than a month. The Russian army captured 15 settlements in the Vyshhorod, Bucha and Brovary districts. As a result of the Ukrainian Defence Forces’ operations, the region was liberated from the Russian invaders on April 2, 2022.
