European partner countries have a vested interest in supporting Ukraine, as their own security is also at stake.

Heorhii Tykhyi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, stated this on Ukrainian television, Ukrinform reports.

“Europe has already made a significant contribution in terms of resources and military aid to Ukraine. And Europe understands that this is about their own security as well. That’s why they have a direct interest in supporting Ukraine. We see these signals and willingness to increase support,” Tykhyi said.

He stressed that Ukrainian diplomacy, along with President Volodymyr Zelensky, is actively working to expand European support, regardless of developments across the Atlantic.

“Europe must become more self-sufficient, ramp up military production, and invest more in Ukraine’s defense industry. This is already happening. Ukrainian diplomacy is seizing this moment to reinforce European support, no matter what happens in other countries,” Tykhyi said.

According to him, the “Support Ukraine” summit held in Kyiv brought together 13 high-level delegations, with a total of 42 countries and international organizations participating, including those who joined virtually.

“This demonstrates strong international support for Ukraine. Today, [Ukrainian Foreign] Minister [Andrii] Sybiha emphasized that this is the clearest sign that Ukraine has backing. For anyone who had doubts or concerns in recent weeks due to media headlines, today in Kyiv, Ukraine and President Zelensky have shown that support for our country is real and consolidated,” Tykhyi said.

He also stressed that the summit was not just about speeches but also concrete commitments as some nations announced new military aid packages and bold political steps in support of Ukraine.

“We appreciate this. We are extremely grateful to our international partners — those who stand firm, who stand with us, and who demonstrated their support today,” he said.

Commenting on the absence of Hungarian representatives at the summit, Tykhyi suggested not to focus on individual countries.

“We understand that some countries […] may have had scheduling conflicts or other reasons for not attending. Let’s focus on those who were present — that is what truly matters. Their solidarity with Ukraine speaks volumes. These are our friends, our supporters, and they are powerful nations,” he said.
