UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and more than ta dozen other European leaders to London on Sunday, March 2, to discuss security guarantees that countries can offer Kyiv in the event of a ceasefire with Russia.
This was reported by Bloomberg, Ukrinform saw.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, invitations were sent to the leaders of Germany, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Romania.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, as well as the presidents of the European Commission and the European Council, Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa, are also expected to attend.
During the summit, Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron will inform their European allies about their meetings in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump. They sought to securethe U.S. military support in case Moscow violates a potential future peace agreement.
The UK Prime Minister’s press service also noted that Starmer will hold bilateral meetings with Zelensky and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
As Ukrinform previously reported, the UK and France have prepared a plan to deploy a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine following a peace agreement and are seeking Trump’s support for it.
During a joint press conference with Starmer yesterday, the U.S. President stated that deploying U.S. troops to support Ukraine would not be necessary, adding that British peacekeepers “can take care of themselves.” At the same time, Trump assured Starmer that he “will always be with the British” if they “need help.”
