The Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace, which, in particular, manufactures missiles for NASAMS air defense systems, is working on establishing a joint production facility in Ukraine.
This was announced by the company’s president Erik Lee in an interview with Euractiv, Ukrinform reports.
“We are now estblishing a company in Ukraine. We are in close discussion with industry in Ukraine to establish a joint venture. The first priority is to increase missile production for our air defence system in Ukraine, based on Ukrainian technology. We are talking about the mass production of missiles, meaning hundreds. We are looking at establishing the joint ventures within months,” Li said.
According to him, the work is being done with an eye toward a long-term partnership.
“Security is very important. At Kongsberg, we want to utilise the strength of Ukraine’s industry. In the long term, when the war is over, Ukraine can be part of the supply chain providing missiles for air defence systems… There are a lot of innovation is taking place right now in Ukraine, we will be part of that. It is important for us to be there,” Li said.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, in January, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov discussed with the CEO of the leading Norwegian corporation Kongsberg Gruppen ASA and President of Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace Erik Lee the possibility of integrating Ukrainian air defense assets into the NASAMS system.
NASAMS is a Norwegian medium-range air defense missile system. It was developed by Norwegian Kongsberg and Raytheon.
