Sixty combat engagements have taken place between Ukrainian and Russian forces since the start of the day, with fighting still ongoing in several sectors. The most intense battles are currently unfolding in the Pokrovsk and Toretsk sectors.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said this in its operational update as of 16:00 on Friday, February 28, Ukrinform reports.
Ukrainian forces continue to repel Russian assaults. Meanwhile, Russian troops shelled multiple settlements with mortars and artillery, including Oleksandrivka, Kucheriivka, Koreniok, Studenok, Kharkivka, Malushyne, and Zarichne in the Sumy region, as well as Liskivshchyna and Yanzhulivka in the Chernihiv region.
In the Kharkiv sector, Russian forces attempted a single assault near Vovchansk but were repelled.
In the Lyman sector, one Russian attack near Ivanivka was unsuccessful.
In the Siversk sector, Russian troops launched two attacks near Bilohorivka and Verkhniokamianske. One battle is still ongoing.
In the Kramatorsk sector, Ukrainian defenders fend off two attacks near Orikhovo-Vasylivka.
In the Toretsk sector, 12 combat clashes occurred since morning near Krymske, Dachne, Toretsk, and Leonidivka. Four battles are ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk sector, Russian troops attempted 15 assaults to dislodge Ukrainian forces near Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Novoukrainka, Pishchane, Kotlyne, Nadiivka, and Andriivka. Ukrainian defenders have already repelled 12 attacks, while three battles continue. Russian forces also launched guided aerial bomb strikes on Zvirove and Leontovychi.
In the Novopavlivka sector, six Russian assaults targeted the Kostiantynopil area.
In the Huliaipole sector, Ukrainian forces repelled two Russian attacks near Pryvilne and Rivnopil. One battle is ongoing. Russian forces also struck Sichenove and Zaliznychne with guided bombs and Huliaipole with unguided missiles.
In the Orikhiv sector, one Russian attack was repelled, and three battles are ongoing. Russian troops, supported by assault aviation, continue offensive attempts near Piatykhatky and Kamianske.
In the Kursk sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled four Russian attacks, with three more battles ongoing. Russian forces launched 14 guided bombs, and conducted 333 artillery strikes against Ukrainian positions and civilian areas.
No active Russian assaults were observed today in the Kupiansk and Dnipro River sectors.
There were no significant changes in the situation on other frontline axes.
