Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski thanked his U.S. counterpart Marco Rubio for confirming that U.S. will not disable Starlink terminals for Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
Sikorski made the statement via X in response to Rubio’s post that reaffirmed no disconnection threats were on the table, Ukrinform reports.
“Thank you, Marco, for confirming that the brave soldiers of Ukraine can count on the vital internet service provided jointly by the U.S. and Poland. Together, Europe and the United States can help Ukraine to achieve a just peace.,” Sikorsky wrote.
In his post, Rubio emphasized that no one threatened to disconnect Ukraine from Starlink, noting that without these terminals in Ukraine, “Russians would be on the border with Poland right now”.
Thus, he responded to Sikorski’s previous post that Poland pays for the Starlink terminals for Ukraine and the subscription fees for them, and if SpaceX turns out to be an unreliable supplier, Poland will seek another one.
This is how the head of Polish diplomacy reacted to Musk’s comment on X, where he emphasized that the Starlink system is “the backbone of the Ukrainian army” and that, if this satellite communications services are disabled, the Ukrainian front lines would “collapse”.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Poland had ordered almost 25,000 Starlink terminals for Ukraine. A standard annual subscription for servicing each terminal costs Warsaw almost UAH 5,500, and a special subscription is UAH 14,000.
