U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed hope that this week’s talks between Ukrainian and American delegations in Saudi Arabia will lead to “some pretty good results.”
Trump made these remarks while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Ukrinform reports, citing Forbes.
“I think we’re going to have a good result in Saudi Arabia. […] I think some very big things could happen this week,” Trump said.
He also expressed confidence that Ukraine would sign a minerals deal with the U.S.
Trump noted that the U.S. is considering lifting the pause on sharing intelligence with Ukraine.
At the same time, Trump reiterated the need to end the Russia-Ukraine war, claiming that neither Ukraine nor Russia has the cards for negotiations.
“I say they [Ukraine] don’t have the cards. Nobody really has the cards. Russia doesn’t have the cards. What you have to do is you have to make a deal and you have to stop the killing. It’s a senseless war and we are going to get it stopped,” he said.
During a February 28 meeting at the White House, Trump told President Volodymyr Zelensky that Ukraine “does not have the cards.” Zelensky responded: “I didn’t come here to play cards.”
