Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets called on UN member states to make efforts to bring back home the Ukrainian children abducted by Russian invaders.
He spoke during an interactive dialogue with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba, within the framework of the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Ukrinform reports citing Lubinets’s Telegram channel.
According to the ombudsman, “Ukraine is grateful for the attention paid to the tragedy unfolding before the eyes of the whole world: the destruction of Ukrainian children’s childhood due to Russia’s aggression.”
“I call on the world not to remain silent about this. Therefore, I appeal to UN member states to make every effort to stop crimes against Ukrainian children, search, identify and bring back deportees, and hold the perpetrators accountable,” the ombudsman noted.
As Lubinets reported, Gamba emphasized the need for the international community to force Russia to sign an action plan with the UN as a party blacklisted for crimes against children.
“This is not just a bureaucratic step. This is a chance to save thousands of young Ukrainians who have been abducted, tortured, exploited for propaganda, and forced to forget who they are. Through joint efforts, we will be able to protect children,” Lubinets emphasized.
The Commissioner noted that Ukraine is grateful to the partners who support it, but the world must act more resolutely because every day of delay is another life taken.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, within the framework of the initiative of the President of Ukraine, Bring Kids Back UA, another four Ukrainian children, who had been subjected to pressure, intimidation, and forced Russification in the temporarily occupied areas, were brought back to the government-controlled area.
