NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that he has “every trust” in the ability of U.S. President Donald Trump to achieve a peaceful resolution in Ukraine.
He made this statement in an comment to CNN ahead of Trump’s scheduled conversation with Vladimir Putin, Ukrinform reports.
Rutte praised the U.S.-Ukraine agreement on a ceasefire proposal during talks in Saudi Arabia last week, calling it a “great step.”
The NATO chief also rejected claims that Trump trusts Putin too much, stating: “He knows President Putin very well from his first term. So he knows how he has to make sure that he can get a deal done. I have full trust in that.”
As previously reported by Ukrinform, Rutte recently suggested the possibility of gradually restoring ‘normal relations’ with Russia after the war ends.
