In the first two months of 2025, mobile firing groups of the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU) have already shot down more than 300 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles of the Shahed type.
Ruslan Muzychuk, spokesman for the National Guard, said this in an exclusive comment to Ukrinform on the eve of the National Guard Day.
“Mobile firing groups of the National Guard effectively complement the state’s air defense system. In the first two months of 2025, they shot down more than 300 Shahed UAVs,” Muzychuk said.
He emphasized that this is how the NGU’s mobile firing groups ensure the protection of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, cities and citizens during air strikes by the Russian Federation.
In addition, according to him, the Defense Forces are actively developing unmanned systems. The National Guard has created separate UAV units that use different types of drones: “Typhoon, Wings of Omega, and the UAV strike unit of the 27th Pechersk Brigade. Each brigade, regiment or battalion also has UAV units.
“We have systematized the training of our UAV operators, developed appropriate programs, and have instructors. Some military units also have their own workshops where drones are assembled, repaired and improved,” the spokesman said, adding that electronic warfare units have been set up to train specialists.
As reported, Ukraine celebrates the Day of the National Guard of Ukraine on March 26. The holiday was established by a presidential decree of March 18, 2015.
