Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC has signed an agreement attracting EUR 270 million in loan funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and a grant agreement with Norway, totaling EUR 140 million, to urgently purchase 1 billion cubic meters of gas.

The relevant statement was made by Naftogaz Group’s press service, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Naftogaz has secured a EUR 270 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and a EUR 140 million grant from the Norwegian government via the NORAD fund. The funds will be disbursed through the EBRD,” the report states.

The above documents were signed by Naftogaz Group Board Acting Chairman Roman Chumak and Deputy Head of the EBRD in Ukraine Mark Magaletsky.

These funds are already available to Naftogaz and will be spent on gas imports.

“They will allow us to purchase nearly 1 bcm of gas, which is essential to ensure a stable heating season amid ongoing war and repeated attacks on energy infrastructure,” Chumak concluded.

A reminder that Naftogaz Group and Poland’s ORLEN signed a contract for the supply of another 100 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine.
