Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha of Ukraine called on the members of the UN Security Council at today’s meeting to support Ukraine’s steps toward peace and condemn Russia’s escalation of terror against the civilian population.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy published his appeal on X, Ukrinform reports.
Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine is committed to peace efforts, and recalled that the Ukrainian side agreed to the U.S. proposal for a complete ceasefire 49 days ago, while Russia never did.
“This is a clear indication of who is interested in peace and who wishes to continue the war. At today’s Security Council meeting, we urge members to express their strong support for Ukraine’s steps toward peace, clearly condemn Russia’s escalated terror against civilians, and take a principled stance on the need to put more pressure on Moscow,” the minister noted.
He added that defending justice, sovereignty, and peace should be a shared commitment, and stressed that “Ukraine stands strong – and not alone.”
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the UN Security Council will meet on Tuesday for a meeting on the intensification of Russian shelling targeting the civilian population of Ukraine.
The Security Council will discuss a number of humanitarian issues related to the Russian war against Ukraine, in particular the recent strikes on Kyiv and other cities.
The meeting was convened by France, which holds the presidency of the UN Security Council in April. It will be hosted by the country’s Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot.
