U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that ceasefire negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are currently in full swing, but he also warned of the consequences if the war continues.

He made this statement in an interview with Charlie Kirk’s online show, according to Ukrinform.

“Obviously, I don’t want to pre-judge the negotiations because they are very much, you know, in full swing actually… You have the Russians who have one peace settlement they’d like, you have the Ukrainians with a different peace settlement. The biggest breakthrough that we’ve got is that both of them are now talking about what they need in order in order to stop fighting. But what one side needs is different from what another side needs. It’s the job of diplomacy to try to bring both sides together,” Vance said.

At the same time, he noted that he is not 100% sure this will succeed, but he feels more optimistic than before. “I feel more optimistic today than I did two weeks ago. And I felt more optimistic two weeks ago than I did two months ago. So we’re making progress, things are moving along. We just have to keep on, sometimes you apply pressure, sometimes you’re a little bit more friendly, sometimes you offer the rewards, sometimes you offer punishment,” Vance added.

According to the U.S. Vice President, if the war does not end soon, Ukraine allegedly will not be able to win it.

“I think there’s this weird idea among the mainstream media that if this thing goes on for another few years, the Russians will collapse, the Ukrainians will take their territory back, and everything will go back to the way it was before the war. That is not the reality that we live in,” Vance said.

He warned that if the war continues for several more years, we may have “societies collapsing”.

“The demographic situation in those countries is a nightmare. We may have millions of more people killed, if the thing goes on for another few years and you could risk escalating it into a nuclear war. It has to stop. It is the policy of this administration — to stop it, and I can guarantee: the President is having all of his people, including me, to work very hard to end the war,” the Vice President added.

As reported by Ukrinform, U.S. President Donald Trump recently stated that Russia and Ukraine are very close to signing a peace agreement and must meet at a “very high” level to finalize the process.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously noted that the United States seeks to resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine through diplomacy before imposing sanctions. In his opinion, sanctions against Russia would prolong the war by another two years.
