U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio welcomed the signing of the minerals agreement between Ukraine and the United States, referring to it as an important step toward ending the Russo-Ukrainian war.
The top diplomat made the statement via X, Ukrinform reports.
“Thanks to the U.S. President’s leadership, today the U.S. and Ukraine signed the Reconstruction Investment Fund Agreement—a milestone in our shared prosperity and an important step in ending this war,” Rubio said in a statement.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Ukraine and the United States of America signed an agreement on the establishment of the Reconstruction Investment Fund. Ukrainian Economy Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko signed the deal on behalf of Ukraine while Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent signed off the agreement on the U.S. behalf.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal earlier announced that, once signed, the minerals agreement with the U.S. shall be ratified by the Verkhovna Rada. The government intends to hold consultations with parliament leadership, groups and factions on May 1 regarding the details of the document.
