47% of Ukrainians have positive expectations from the signing of the minerals agreement between Ukraine and the United States.

According to Ukrinform, this is evidenced by the results of a sociological survey conducted in May by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

According to the survey, as of early May, 47% of respondents had rather positive expectations of the agreement. Rather negative consequences were reported by 22%, while another 19% said that the agreement would have no impact on Ukraine. The remaining 12% were undecided.

Thus, the balance of positive and negative expectations is currently +25% (i.e., positive expectations prevail).

KIIS also asked questions about trust in individual Ukrainian public figures.

In the case of all public figures, no more than a third of those who trust them believe that this agreement will have rather negative consequences for Ukraine. At the same time, in almost all cases, the share of those who expect rather positive consequences exceeds the share of those who expect rather negative consequences.

The only exception is those who trust Yuriy Boyko, a member of the Platform for Life and Peace party. Among them, the number of those who have positive expectations is the lowest, and the number of those who have negative expectations of the agreement is slightly higher. There is also somewhat less optimism among those who trust blogger Oleksii Arestovych (although in his case, the balance of expectations is still positive). However, KIIS noted that these results are less reliable due to the small number of their supporters in the sample.

In the case of all other public figures, among those who trust them, about half or more believe that the signing of the agreement will have rather positive consequences for Ukraine.

“The results of the survey show that Ukrainians currently have mostly positive expectations of the fossil fuel agreement, with a minority having negative expectations. Moreover, we also see that among those who trust well-known public figures, in particular leaders of the political opposition, positive expectations from the agreement also prevail. The exceptions are supporters of Boyko and (to a lesser extent) of Arestovych,” KIIS emphasized.

KIIS started the survey on May 2 by conducting telephone interviews with a nationwide sample of adults living in the government-controlled areas of Ukraine.

The field phase of the survey is supposed to last until mid-May, but as of May 6, 561 interviews have been conducted. However, the KIIS noted that this number is sufficient to understand the preliminary results and the final data will not be fundamentally different.

As reported by Ukrinform, on April 30, Ukraine and the United States signed an agreement on the establishment of the Investment Fund for Reconstruction.

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation recommended that the parliament ratify the agreement on the establishment of an investment fund between Ukraine and the United States.
