U.S. President Donald Trump said he would talk to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the Ukraine-U.S. minerals agreement after it was ratified by the Verkhovna Rada on Thursday, May 8.
Trump spoke with reporters at the White House on Thursday, an Ukrinform staff correspondent reports.
“We just concluded the rare earth deal with Ukraine,” Trump said. “That’s been fully ratified and approved by their legislative branches, and so we appreciate that, and I’ll be speaking with the president in a little while, a little bit later.”
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, on May 8 passed the bill “On Ratification of the Agreement Between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the United States of America on the Establishment of the U.S.-Ukrainian Reconstruction Investment Fund.”
Ukraine and the U.S. signed the agreement on April 30.
At least two more agreements that will regulate the launch of the Fund are yet to be submitted to the government for consideration. The Fund is expected to be fully operational within a few weeks.
