Crown Prince Haakon of Norway arrives in Kyiv

Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon arrived in Kyiv on May 20, 2025, marking the first royal visit from Norway to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war.

This was reported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on social media platform X, according to Ukrinform.

“His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon is in Ukraine today. This visit underscores Norway’s unwavering solidarity with the Ukrainian people and our deep respect for their resilience. Norway will continue to provide robust political, military, and humanitarian support,” the post reads.

Crown Prince Haakon was accompanied to Kyiv by Norway’s Minister of Energy, Terje Aasland.

At Kyiv railway station, the prince was welcomed by Norway’s Ambassador Helene Sand Andresen and a Ukrainian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Oleksandr Mishchenko.

During his visit, Prince Haakon visited wounded Ukrainian soldiers undergoing rehabilitation and paid tribute to fallen defenders in the village of Moshchun.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, funding for Norway’s Nansen Support Programme for Ukraine will be increased this year to $7.7 billion.
