Ukrainian Embassy in Spain keeps Portnov murder case under control – MFA

The Ukrainian Embassy in Spain is maintaining ongoing contact with Spanish law enforcement authorities investigating the murder of Andriy Portnov, former first deputy head of Ukraine’s Presidential Administration, in Madrid and is keeping the case under close control.

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine told this to Ukrinform.

According to the embassy, early on May 21, a Ukrainian citizen was killed in Pozuelo de Alarcon, a suburb of Madrid. Preliminary information from Spanish police indicates the attack was carried out by a group of individuals. The investigation is being conducted by Homicide Group No. 5 in coordination with the Forensic Division of the Madrid Regional Directorate of the Spanish National Police.

“As of May 22, no suspects have been detained. The embassy remains in constant contact with law enforcement and is awaiting more detailed information in response to an official request sent to the Spanish National Police. The case remains under the embassy’s control,” the ministry said.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Defense and Security Forces confirmed that Andriy Portnov, former first deputy head of Ukraine’s Presidential Administration, was shot dead in Madrid.
