The Air Defense Forces of Ukraine successfully intercepted six Russian Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles targeting Kyiv and neutralized 245 out of 250 enemy drones.
According to Ukrinform, citing a Telegram post by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the attack began at 20:30 on Friday, May 23. Russian forces launched 14 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from Taganrog, Yeysk, Bryansk, and temporarily occupied Crimea, striking the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Overnight, the enemy also deployed 250 Shahed-type attack UAVs and various types of decoy drones from multiple directions, including Bryansk, Millerovo, Kursk, Orel, Shatalovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Crimea.
The primary target of the attack was Kyiv.

The assault was countered by Ukrainian Defense Forces using aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups.
As of 08:30 on Saturday, May 24, air defense systems successfully intercepted six Iskander-M/KN-23 missiles aimed at Kyiv and neutralized 245 drones across eastern, northern, southern, and central Ukraine. Of these, 128 were destroyed by firepower, while 117 were suppressed or vanished from radar due to electronic warfare without causing any negative impact.
Damage from the attack was reported in the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
As Ukrinform earlier reported, citing the Kyiv City Military Administration, Russian forces carried out one of the most extensive combined airstrikes on Kyiv overnight into May 24, leaving 15 people injured.
