U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the request of the Russian side.
This was reported by the U.S. Department of State’s press service, according to Ukrinform.
“Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke today with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, at Russia’s request. Secretary Rubio reiterated President Trump’s call for continued direct talks between Russia and Ukraine to achieve a lasting peace,” stated U.S. State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
At the same time, Russian state propaganda media, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry, claimed that the conversation also addressed the sabotage of railway infrastructure in Russia’s Bryansk and Kursk regions on June 1.
As previously reported, the State Department stated that Russia’s massive shelling of Ukraine during ceasefire negotiations was “extremely frustrating” to Trump.
