Strengthening sanctions against Russia and Austria’s readiness for a mediation role were the main topics of the meeting President Volodymyr Zelensky had with Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker.
The head of state reported this on X, Ukrinform saw.
“Strengthening sanctions against Russia and Austria’s readiness to act as a mediator were the key topics of my meeting with Federal Chancellor of Austria Christian Stocker. We are grateful to Austria for its support since the very beginning of Russian aggression, for its humanitarian assistance, and above all, for supporting our citizens. We appreciate the mediation in the return of young Ukrainians who were abducted by Russia.,” Zelensky said.
He noted that the meeting separately discussed economic cooperation between Ukraine and Austria, increased investments and the participation of Austrian companies in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
“Thank you for taking steps toward important cooperation between our nations and for supporting our people and Ukraine on the path to EU membership,” the President said.
As reported on the website of the President of Ukraine, the parties paid detailed attention to Austria’s support for Ukrainian children, primarily mediation in the return of young Ukrainians abducted by Russia, and assistance in the construction of school shelters and upgrade of school meals.
The parties also discussed cooperation between Ukraine and Austria in the field of justice. First of all, this concerns former Ukrainian officials and oligarchs who are hiding from Ukraine’s law enforcement in Europe, including in Austria.
“Austria’s support in issues at the European Union level is important to us. Ukraine deserves to be a full member of the European Union and fulfills all the required conditions to this end,” Zelensky added.
In addition, it was about economic cooperation, increasing investments, opening joint ventures and the participation of Austrian companies in Ukraine’s post-war recovery.
“Austrian companies are ready to play an important role in the reconstruction thanks to their experience, expertise, innovations, and long-term commitments,” the Chancellor said.

In the presence of the President of Ukraine and the Federal Chancellor of Austria, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko and Minister of Economics, Energy and Tourism of Austria Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer signed a declaration on deepening Ukrainian-Austrian economic cooperation. This includes expanding economic cooperation, increasing investments, promoting sustainable economic recovery and development of Ukraine, in particular with the involvement of Austrian business.
