Two killed, 27 injured in Russian attacks on Kherson region

Two people were killed and 27 others were injured on June 17 due to Russian shelling in the Kherson region.

The Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office said this in a post on the Telegram messaging app, Ukrinform reports.

“A pre-trial investigation has been launched under the procedural guidance of regional prosecutors into the commission of war crimes,” the statement said.

Investigators say that on June 17, 2025, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on several populated areas in the Kherson region using artillery and various types of drones.

As of 17:45, one person had been confirmed killed and 27 others wounded. One man died in the village of Novokairy following an artillery strike, and another man was injured in Bilozerka after a shell explosion.

Throughout the day, the enemy used drones to attack Kherson, Novooleksandrivka, and Shyroka Balka, injuring 26 people. The figures are still being updated.

Private homes, a school, garages, and vehicles were also damaged in the strikes.

Regional Governor Oleksandr Prokudin stated on Telegram that occupiers dropped explosives from a drone, killing a 52-year-old man instantly.

Earlier in the day, Russian forces attacked the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson with drones. According to Prokudin, Russia appears to have changed its drone tactics, launching massive attacks early in the morning, which has led to a growing number of civilian casualties.
