Australia has imposed sanctions on 60 vessels from the Russian tanker fleet. In total, the country has introduced more than 1,400 sanctions against the Russian Federation.
This was reported on Telegram by the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, Ukrinform saw.
“A strong step by Australia: 60 vessels from the Russian tanker fleet under sanctions. Australia today adopted one of the largest sanctions decisions against the Russian war machine – 60 vessels of the so-called ‘tanker fleet’, which were used to circumvent oil sanctions and fuel aggression, were placed under restrictions. A number of vessels were recommended by our sanctions group,” Yermak noted.
According to the Office chief, this is Australia’s first sanction package specifically aiming at the fleet, and immediately – as targeted and strong as possible.
“The restrictions will apply to vessels’ access to ports, their insurance and maintenance. Australia has already imposed more than 1,400 sanctions, and this package is a clear continuation of the policy of pressure on the Kremlin,” the head of the Office noted.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, on May 20, EU foreign ministers adopted the 17th package of sanctions against Russia, aimed, in particular, at almost 200 ships from the shadow fleet. The latest measures also concern hybrid threats and human rights.
On January 10, 2025, the U.S. expanded sanctions against the Russian energy sector, including hundreds of tankers from the shadow fleet. The restrictive measures affected 183 vessels. of the shadow fleet.
