Ukrainian air defenses down 78 of 97 drones launched by Russia overnight

Since the evening of June 23, Ukrainian air defense forces have intercepted 78 of 97 drones launched by Russian troops in attacks on Ukraine.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

Beginning at 22:00 on Monday, June 23, Russian forces launched 97 Shahed-type attack UAVs and various types of decoy drones from multiple directions, including Orel, Millerovo, Kursk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Chauda in temporarily occupied Crimea.

The attack was countered using a combination of aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, unmanned aerial units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

As of 08:00 on Tuesday, June 24, air defense systems had intercepted 78 drones across Ukraine’s eastern, southern, and northern regions. Of these, 63 were destroyed by direct fire, while 15 were suppressed or locally neutralized via electronic warfare.

Drone strikes caused damage in at least six locations.

As reported earlier by Ukrinform, three civilians—including an 8-year-old boy—were killed in the Sumy region as a result of a Russian drone attack.
