U.S. President Donald Trump suggests that Vladimir Putin’s territorial ambitions could be greater than the occupation of Ukrainian territories, as the U.S. military leadership says. At the same time, Trump believes Russia would like to pull out of the war in Ukraine.
The chief of the White House said this on Wednesday during a press conference following the NATO summit in The Hague, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
In response to the question of whether he believes Putin’s territorial ambitions go beyond Ukraine, as stated by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, Trump replied: “It’s possible.”
But, at the same time, the US president continued: “I know one thing: he (Putin – ed.) would like to settle, he would like to get out of that thing.”
Trump noted that, in his opinion, the Russian leader wants to get out of this situation, because “it’s a mess for him.”
The U.S. President also noted that Putin was “misguided” when he launched an invasion of Ukraine.
In addition, Trump admitted that he previously thought “we would have had that settled easy.”
As Ukrinform reported, Trump positively assessed his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, adding that he wanted to also speak with Putin about the possibility of ending the war.
