In Poland, fighter jets were scrambled Sunday morning to protect the country’s airspace in the wake of Russian missile attacks against neighboring Ukraine.
This was reported on X by the 10th Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, Ukrinform reports.
“In connection with the attack by the Russian Federation, which is targeting at facilities on the territory of Ukraine, Polish and allied aviation operated in Polish airspace this morning,” the statement says.
As noted, all available capabilities were deployed, in particular, another pair of fighter jets were scrambled, and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems were in full readiness for immediate response.
It is noted that these actions were aimed at ensuring security of the territory bordering Ukraine.
Later, the Operational Command reported the completion of fighter patrols in Poland’s airspace.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Ukrainian air defense neutralized 475 Russian air attack vehicles out of 537 launched during the night and morning of June 29. When repelling a massive Russian missile and drone attack, a Ukrainian F-16 aircraft was damaged, and a pilot, Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Ustimenko, was killed.
