First 6,000 graves prepared at military memorial cemetery – PM Shmyhal

Six thousand burial sites have been prepared at the National Military Memorial Cemetery for the first burials.

According to Ukrinform, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on Telegram.

He discussed the implementation of the National Military Memorial Cemetery project with representatives of the government, the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, veterans’ and public organizations, historians, and families of fallen soldiers.

According to Shmyhal, further steps have been coordinated.

The Prime Minister emphasized that honoring the defenders of Ukraine is one of the key priorities of the state’s veteran policy.

The National Military Memorial Cemetery should become a place of honor, dignity, and gratitude to those who gave their lives for Ukraine, Shmyhal said.

According to him, the construction of the first launch complex of the first stage was completed this year. Six thousand burial sites have been prepared. The first burials will begin here in the near future. The construction of the second launch complex is ongoing.

“There is still a lot of work ahead. The state’s task is to create appropriate conditions where everyone can pay tribute to our heroes,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

As reported by Ukrinform, on December 8, 2023, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on the creation and operation of the National Military Memorial Cemetery.

The National Military Memorial Cemetery is a nationwide place of honor and commemoration of the fallen (deceased) defenders of Ukraine.

The memorial complex will include not only a military cemetery with all the necessary ritual facilities for the honorable burial of those who died defending the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine. There will also be a museum complex.
