Donald Trump has announced that the United States will supply Ukraine with missiles for Patriot air defense systems to protect against Russian attacks, saying that Putin “talks nice and then bombs everybody in the evening.”
As reported by Ukrinform, citing Reuters, Trump made this statement to journalists at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington.
“We will send them Patriots, which they desperately need, because Putin really surprised a lot of people. He talks nice and then bombs everybody in the evening. But there’s a little bit of a problem there. I don’t like it,” Trump stated.
The U.S. President did not specify how many missiles would be sent to Ukraine but noted that the European Union would reimburse the U.S. for their cost.
“We basically are going to send them various pieces of very sophisticated military equipment. They are going to pay us 100% for that, and that’s the way we want it,” Trump said.
This week, Trump plans to meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to discuss, among other issues, Russia’s war against Ukraine.
As a reminder, Trump had promised to make a big announcement regarding Russia on July 14.
As reported by Ukrinform, citing The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. president is considering the transfer of an additional Patriot air defense system to Ukraine.
For the first time since taking office in January this year, Trump intends to use presidential authorities to deliver a $300 million arms package to Ukraine.
