U.S. lawmakers must adopt a new sanctions bill against Russia following the European Union’s approval of its 18th and toughest sanctions package to date.
This call was made on social media platform X by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys, Ukrinform reports.
“The EU paved the way. Now it’s time for perfect storm – the U.S. Senate to vote on that Russia sanctions bill imposing crushing burdens on Russian economy and those fueling Russia’s war of aggression,” Budrys stated.
He emphasized that Russia “cannot ignore” the EU’s latest sanctions, which are “targeting the heart of its war economy
According to the minister, the new sanctions targeting more than 100 Russia’s shadow fleet vessels, 22 Russian banks, ban on Nordstream 1 and 2 and lowering of the oil price cap “ensure that Russia stays right on the course of running out of blood money’.”
“Peace through strength,” Budrys added.
As reported, on July 18, the European Union has approved its 18th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation — described as one of the toughest to date.
