The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which provides financial and technical assistance to support reforms and economic development in Ukraine, has expressed concern over efforts to limit the independence of Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions, specifically developments surrounding the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).

The international financial institution issued this statement on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

“The EBRD echoes concerns expressed by the EU, G7 Ambassadors and international partners on developments around NABU and SAPO in Ukraine,” the statement read.

The bank stressed that the independence of anti-corruption entities is a key pillar of the rule of law.

“We will remain engaged with the authorities on this issue,” the EBRD added.

Bill No. 12414 — adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on July 22 and signed the same day by President Volodymyr Zelensky — has sparked concern among several European allies.

Earlier, G7 ambassadors raised concerns regarding an SBU investigation into NABU, during which a suspect was identified with alleged ties to Russia.
