Zelensky signs sanctions law on Russia shadow fleet

President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law imposing sanctions on ships and aircraft involved, in particular, in Russia’s shadow transportation of oil and petroleum products.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to bill No. 13020 on the parliament’s website.

The law provides for the imposition of sanctions on ships and aircraft involved in Russia’s shadow transportation of oil and oil products, weapons, and military personnel.

The document provides for amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Sanctions” regarding the application of sanctions to ships and aircraft whose activities pose real and potential threats to the national interests, national security, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine.

The Security Service of Ukraine and intelligence services are tasked with identifying and establishing the facts of the use of such ships.

It is stipulated that information on all entities, as well as ships and aircraft subject to sanctions, must be entered into the State Register of Sanctions.

As reported by Ukrinform, on July 16, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on the application of sanctions to ships and aircraft with 291 votes in favor.
